Just when you thought Barbie played her final role as a heartbroken housewife cheated on by Ken with another man, the Barbie doll takes on its latest character --- a drag queen.
So is this Ken in Barbie's clothes? Not at all, Ken's legs don't come as close to perfection as the Drag Queen Barbie's. Mattel created the drag doll in collaboration with New York City's design duo The Blonds. The design pair is known for their extravagant styling on stars like Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj.
The drag doll named "Blond Diamond Barbie" is loosely based off the image of The Blonds' designer Phillipe Blond, who likes to throw on a fabulous party dress every once in a while. The doll comes equipped with a gorgeous sparkly bejeweled cocktail dress, blinged out jewelry, and a white faux-fur coat. Finishing off the dramatic look is long wavy platinum blonde hair and full voluminous lashes.
The gender bender doll does not come with an Adam's apple or mysterious ***** but it does embody the glamorousness of a fierce drag queen.
Cathy Cline, vice president of marketing for Mattel's girls' brands, told The New York Times, "One of the great things about Barbie is that she continues to push the envelope. Barbie doesn't worry about what other people think."
Phillipe expressed the same belief saying, "Fashion is a form of self-expression and we believe that everyone should feel glamorous every day." The other designer of The Blonds, David Blond hopes the Barbie doll can help push the brand mainstream. The design duo usually sells to private clients due to their wild and daring aesthetic. With freedom of expression being more and more embraced in today's culture, the brand may have a chance to cross-over. "And that's the direction we would like to produce. Things that are more accessible to more people. This is a step in the right direction," said David.

It'd be better if it actually looked like a drag queen. Without the writeup I don't think anyone would say, "That's Drag Queen Barbie!" Maybe the big fur coat or makeup and hair, but otherwise don't all Barbies dress like Drag Queens a bit?
