So I was just talking on facebook to an old friend from college who was/is into all those critically acclaimed rock bands like Pink Floyd etc. and he kept making fun of me for liking Rihanna, Reggaeton and Regional Mexican. I kept trying to explain that music taste is subjective and if certain music touches me more and makes me happier than critically acclaimed rock bands, then that's just my preference, but he kept saying I'm an inferior person because of the music I like

At first it pissed me off but after a while I felt bad for him and blocked him.

So what's your stance on musical snobs?

I am not a musical snob, but if there is an exceptional piece of music that I am put in a position to defend, I won't hesitate to pull out some critical acclaim receipts.

I do not shame people for liking who they like. The worst I do is call people heretics and devil worshipers for not liking Beyoncé.

If I encounter a music snob, I would try to learn form them and also have a good discussion. I could convince them that someone/thing they dont like is actually very good.

I don't want them looking down on me though.

"Friend" was the wrong word choice to describe him.
"Acquaintance" would be more fitting I suppose

I only dislike people who pull the "Metacritic disagrees" card.

There's nothing worse than someone who can't form their own opinion or desperately needs their opinion validated by someone else.

That attitude they have REALLY annoys me. I don't know why, I guess it's the idea of tying personal value/accomplishment into musical taste; it doesn't make any sense to me.

I can be snobby like that at timesall the time too... but I try to avoid going too far.
