This is probably one of the most annoying things I see on ATRL and Twitter. People seem to thing that just because you can follow some choreo, you're all of a sudden this great dancer. And this is simply not true. Being a great dancer means you can extend your dancing to different ranges. You take risk. You try things you've never tried before.

I am mostly making this thread now because of Rihanna and Where Have You Been. People all of a sudden think Rihanna is this fabulous amazing dancer and it's not true. She can follow some choreo. Big deal. She can grind and girate at best. It's really ridiculous how the "navy" glorifies this little choreo she is doing now.

This is not an attack on Rihanna, I'm just using her as an example.

Most pop girls just do a little choreography (Katy, Rihanna, Ke$ha, etc.)
Gaga is pretty weak too, even though most Monsters think she's great (she's better than most, but not that great.)

J.Lo, Beyonce, and Nicole S. are probably the best pop dancers we have currently.

Meh, I just hate it when stans try to put their fave on level with trained dancers when they muster up the strength to serve a cute 8 count.

I think that if somebody cannot pull of an impressive free style, they should not be considered a dancer. It's like, if you can paint by numbers, does that make you an artist? No, so why should somebody who can do what somebody tells them to do (choreo) be considered a dancer?

Britney's a dancer. A dancer, who has a dance camp for young aspiring dancers. A dancer who has some artist who are supposedly the best performer alive copying their moves 11 years later. A dancer who will if she thinks a certain type of dance fits the song, and she's not familiar with that type of dance, she will take time to learn that new style.

It's simply because the standards for what is "talent" have drastically dimisnhed over the years. Anyone who has rhythm and can move to a beat, ppl will call a great dancer no matter how elementary the steps are.

Simply put, the difference between someone who can execute choreography and a real dancer is the discipline in the dance. Most acts today are singers that dance, not real dancers. And with today's youth do easily entertained by basic dancing, it really waters down the pioneering efforts of MJ and Janet.
