How crazy are we talking? She was relevant during the TF era, and she was somewhat different there, but more high fashion than anything.

But if she was totally toned down and normal, then no.

However, now she can be as normal as she wants. Her foot is in the door and she's already and established artist.

False though. There are A LOT of relevant/successful artists out there without the gimmicks.

I think her initial exposure was based a lot on her wackiness. Now I think she could become Adele fashion-wise and still be relevant.

Think of it this way; Just Dance didn't start charting until Gaga started acting "eccentric."

Probably not if she never did them at all, just because that was a big part of the buzz around her act in the beginning.

If she dropped them now, she'd still be relevant down the line.

No, the "crazy, high fashion outfits" are what makes her different.
But she wasn't relevant really when 'Just Dance' or 'Poker Face' went #1. So I'm going to say she wouldn't be AS relevant.

Gaga wouldn't be the artist she is without the "gimmicks"

However yes she would be relevant because JD and PF both went #1 before anyone knew about her or her performance art

Probably. Her gimmicks are the entire foundation of her image and what makes her an exciting person to talk about and pay attention to, but who is to say her music couldn't carry her to some other height of relevance? She wasn't always the crazy chick with the stupid outfits. She started out riding on two hits that actually connected with the public, and nothing else.

With that said, she would definitely not be as popular now if she had not applied the gimmicks and the crazy performances. People could wish her to be a conventional pop star, but it is precisely the fact that she is not that made her the force that she is today.
