Whenever I tell people I study Art at University (Fashion and Textile Design) they automatically assume I'm a complete idiot. Umm why?

I haven't picked the most conventional career path, but it doesn't mean i'm stupid or incapable of creating a livelihood for myself..

I guess some people think artists are devoid of intellectual and athletic talent, so that's why they chose art? I don't know.

I think smart people are usually associated with science (in people's minds), that's why artists that aren't famous get a hard time.
