Frank Ocean talks exclusively about coming out of the closet in this weekend’s The Guardian Guide – a free magazine that comes with The Guardian newspaper in the UK.
Ocean came out earlier this month in a beautifully-written statement he posted to his Tumblr page. He originally planned to include the statement in the liner notes of his debut album Channel Orange, but decided to release the statement early when pre-release reviews of the album started to question the singer’s use of the “he” pronoun in relation to an unrequited love in the lyrics to some of his songs.
In the cover story which is called “The Confessions Of Frank Ocean”, Ocean reveals that the decision to come out was “about my own sanity and my ability to feel like I’m living a life where… I’m happy when I wake up in the morning, and not with this freakin’ boulder on my chest.”
