Is Nicki Minaj Officially One of "The Gurls"?
Beyoncé, Britney, GaGa, Katy, Rihanna......... Nicki?
The pop community has a tendency to place Bey, Gaga, Katy, Britney & Ri ri in a hierarchy of feamle pop stars. Madonna is excluded from this hierarchy because she has a legendary status that none of the gurls could ever compete with. There have been other members in the hierarchy over the years including Fergie, Kesha, Avril, Shakira, Nelly Furtado, Gwen, J.Lo to name a few but at the moment it stands as Beyoncé, Britney, GaGa, Katy & Rihanna. Adele is excluded from this arrangement because she is not a popstar and P!nk has never really been placed into this category even though she is a popstar of the same status/calibre as Katy.
So anyway as Nicki is about to have her third massive hit in a row (Super Bass, Starships, PTA) and has succeeded in capturing the attention of the pop community in spite of her hip-hop backround... can she now classes as one the pop gurls?

I'm a Britney stan to DEATH, but I'll tell you she's no longer one of the main pop girls. Her and Beyonce are now legends as Madonna/Janet were for them
The pop girls are now Gaga/Katy/Rihanna and yes, Nicki. And anyone who says otherwise is a damn fool. Each of these girls controls a specific demographic/niche (Gaga-gay/club culture/ Katy-bubble-gum/ Rihanna-international-pop/Nicki-pop/hiphop.

yes she's done a good amount of record breaking tbh i'm a huge fan of course but i think this is what Nicki was always wishing for in terms of type of careers she wanted to have this place in pop and also at the same time maintain a hierarchic spot in the hip hop genre. imo she has succeeded at a remarkable success rate

Pink has been a force for over a DECADE with a steady string of hits and album sales.
She is not on the same level as Katy Perry. She has already gotten off the damn elevator.

No that came out wrong. Basically what I meant is that she is as big if not bigger than the usual suspects but for reasons unknown to me shes not really categorised as one of the game leaders.
