You sure can, but in a different way. Bjork, for example, is quality. She has extremely high critical acclaim and I love her, although she's been here since the 90s and only sold 15 million albums with over 7 releases. She's successful critically but not commercially.
The artists that are remembered for years to come, Madonna, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, all had quantity (and quality) but you can't get on those lists without quantity. You could without quality (Shakira selling 70 million albums, but then again that's completely subjective). That's why I'd rather have quantity.
