The Hunger Games studio Lionsgate has set the release dates for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Mockingjay – Part 2.

Part 1 will be released November 21, 2014. Part 2 will be out November 20, 2015.

This is two big announcements in one. Not only will the remaining films in the franchise each have a November release date, but Lionsgate has now committed to two films for the final book.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released November 22, 2013.

I actually think it's a good thing that they're splitting it.
Way too much happens in Mockingjay. If they didn't split it in two movies, they'd have to cut A LOT out.
It's a short book, page-wise, but that's mostly because Suzanne is a very get-to-the-point writer. She doesn't waste time with emotions and description. She just tells the story.

The Hunger Games has made almost as much as the biggest Twilight movie (THG has grossed $678m, New Moon grossed $710m) but it definitely won't be as big Harry Potter, except in the US. Harry Potter's grosses range from $797m to $1.328b WW. The Hunger Games' $404m in the US is more than any Twilight or Harry Potter film though.

Can't wait for Catching Fire (best among the three)! But yeah, Mockingjay do need to be split into two movies. I don't think they will be able to show everything in one movie unless it's 4-5 hours long.

There is no need to split Mockingjay in 2 parts. The book isn't that long and doesn't involve any more story than CF. I mean I understood when they did it with Deathly Hallows but this just seems like a desperate plan to milk more cash out of the franchise :llipton:

The first Hunger Games made more in the US than any film of either franchise.

It probably won't be bigger than HP worldwide though.

Mockingjay was the most densed among the three books. There were lots of actions and strong points from the start. It'll be tough to make the book a film of 2 hours.

Catching Fire was the least exciting for me. I can't at the focus on the romance at the start. Although the arena was very much enjoyable there.
