Paulina Rubio taken to court over missing concert
Paulina Rubio taken to court over missing concert in Colombia
Quote:
A Miami court will rule Monday in the lawsuit against Mexican pop star Paulina Rubio, who failed to attend a concert in Colombia in 2010, local media reported.
Miami-based record company CMG Entertainment sued Rubio in 2010 for breach of contract after she refused to perform at a music festival in Tunja, a town in the central Colombian department of Boyoca.
The plaintiffs said Rubio requested a private jet to fly her from Medellin to Tunja in August 2010, but the flight, which cost about $20,000, was forced to land in Bogota because of air restrictions. CMG Entertainment planned to drive the Latina icon to the show with a military escort--a three-hour trip according to google maps--but Rubio refused. Among those waiting in the crowd for the Latina pop icon: then-President Alvaro Uribe.
Rubio's therapist testified the singer had been suffering from clinical depression, according to the Miami New Times, and was in even worse straits due to the absence of her pet dog, without which she was an "emotional mess."
The singer's attempt to make amends by performing a new concert was rejected by Boyoca's secretary of culture, who said the singer had disrespected the community and cost Tunja more than $1 million. The same secretary of culture testified against Rubio in Miami, RCN Radio reported.
CMG entertainment is suing Rubio for $985,000 in damages.

Well, did she like give them a refund or something? Like I would have understood if it were like, the headline and she was the only person who was going to perform...but this seems like a music festival where there were going to be other people performing either way.

I don't think so. The problem has been there since 2010. Her ex even testified against her
She wasn't the only performer as there were other artists to perform.

Suit for Paulina Rubio concert no-show goes to trial in August
Quote:
Mexican pop star Paulina Rubio will face trial in August for alleged breach of contract after failing to show up for a concert in Colombia in 2010, the artist's attorney told Efe.
"I believe the date set by the court is Aug. 20 - they haven't said so for certain but it's possible," attorney Omar Ortega said Thursday.
The judicial proceedings had been scheduled for Wednesday at the Miami-Dade County Courthouse but was postponed because Judge Abby Cynamon was tied up with another case.
The singer of "Boys Will Be Boys" and "Me Gustas Tanto" (I Like You So Much) faces a suit for almost $1 million that was filed in November 2010 by Miami-based CMG Entertainment, the Joint Cultural Fund of the Government of Colombia, Boyaca, and the Viva la Musica Cultural Corporation.
Ortega told Efe that "Rubio did nothing wrong. Paulina did nothing that justifies her being sued."
The plaintiffs say that Rubio signed a contract to sing at two concerts in August of that same year in Colombia, one in Bogota and the other in Tunja, according to the legal document of the case.
But the so-called Golden Girl of pop music in Spanish sang only in Bogota and was a no-show at the second concert that was part of Boyaca's International Culture Festival.
According to the document, the plaintiffs agreed to pay the Mexican artist $100,000 for the two concerts as well as providing her return flight from Miami to Colombia plus her hotels and land transport from Bogota to Tunja.
CMG Entertainment hired a private plane from Miami to Bogota for $24,000 to fly the artist to the Andean nation and back to the United States.
When Rubio was about to go to Tunja, the capital of the Colombian province of Boyaca, she requested a private plane to avoid the five hour trip by car.
Though the contract did not call for it, CMG Entertainment chartered a private aircraft for which the artist herself paid about $6,000, according to the legal document to which Efe had access.
The pilot waited "more than five hours" for Rubio, and when the singer finally showed up he was unable to fly to Tunja at that hour due to restrictions in effect on that area's air space, according to arguments on behalf of the plaintiffs.
The singer later said that the plane could not land in Tunja because of weather conditions.
