The domestic box office is exploding with early Fourth Of July fireworks with total moviegoing a blazing $205M which is +15% from last year. And R-rated raunch ruled today starting overnight and all through the day and evening.
Universal’s Ted is wildly overperforming and looking at a whopping $20.5M opening today and a $51M first weekend. This means the reprobate teddy bear is #1 and outgrossing the original Hangover today and could open the weekend as the biggest original R-rated comedy on record! Even better, audiences gave Ted an ‘A-’ CinemaScore which ensures great word of mouth. Ted was acquired by Universal from MRC for $69M and was made for only $50M cost.
Also overperforming is Warner Bros‘ Magic Mike which is looking at a great $18M opening today and $47M weekend. Domestic matinees for Magic Mike were especially “crazy”, rival studios told me. This is really reminding me and Hollywood of opening day for the first Sex And The City – though hopefully not as frontloaded. Audiences gave Magic Mike a ‘B’ CinemaScore which won’t hurt word of mouth.Chalk up another hit for new star Tatum but with a twist because he and Soderbergh funded the film themselves – since Magic Mike is partially based on the actor’s experiences as a Florida stripper when he was 19. And this was a low-cost acquisition of domestic rights for the studio (reportedly as low as $7M).

That doesn't surprise me. A lot of people have wanted to see both of those movies. Ted has been getting a lot of love from my friends on Facebook.
This has been the first summer in a while where I actually WANT to go to see movies, and more than just one. I have plans to see Katy Perry's movie, and I hope to at least see one or two more movies before summer ends. Magic Mike and Brave are my Top choices and Ted is a close third since I heard everyone is liking it.

I think that's because of all the exciting movies out: Brave, Magic Mike, Ted, Katy Perry's movie, and etc. There's literally a lot to choose from for once.
Ted is so funny! Very much like family guy but it dragged at some points, havnt seen magic mike, I'm not sure if i wanna see it, especially at the cinemas
I was supposed to go see Magic Mike with my girlfriend so I could use her as my excuse to go see it, but she bailed out last minute and I'm too pussed out to go on my own. I can't be seen like that, it's not a good look.
Guess I'll be waiting for the RedBox.
And Ted doesn't look too interesting or funny from the trailers, but I have a feeling the whole movie is actually hilarious. Might go see that one.

The theater was full of middle-age woman and teenage girls, the gays were spread out like. If anyone's mother was missing Thursday night she was probably in the audience. The woman went crazyyyy, Matt Bomer & Adam Rodriguez are YYYYUUUUMMM.
