Mary doesn't even have those rhythmic like vocals in her songs.
Most of her vocal lines are very chopped up and rhythmic centered. Like most of her lines are centered on 8th and 16th notes. She started going more melodic with IASF on the ballad side.
Even like Irreplaceable has very short, precise vocal lines.
Some of the songs on DIL as well, like That's How You Like It and Hip Hop Star.
That's something that's gonna be a part of her musical legacy.
The rapid fire singing is what attracted me to her.
NO ONE ELSE can do Bug-A-Boo, no one, the melisma, adlibs and the singing all at once is just insane.
I wish people will realize she popularize that way of singing : BugABoo, Independant Women, Bills Bills Bills, Diva etc. But since it's Beyoncé, they probably won't ever give her a little credit for that.
This documentary was done horribly. A lot of it I didn't agree with. I didn't like how the skipped the 80s (when arguably contemporary R&B was birthed) then skip to Mary and Bey. The could have bridged that gap better because alot had taken place since then.
I prefer Mary over both of them, but MC and WH are/were just more skilled.
