Why is everyone crazy about Marina, Lana, and Azealia?
I mean they are all great, and they're a nice breath of air compared to the usual pop girls, but they all seem to be uber popular here, while similar artists like Ellie Goulding, Robyn, MIA, Santigold, etc. usually get the short hand of the stick, with some actually being more popular in the real world.
What is the big deal about them? I'd like to know.

I have no clue about Lana or Marina, those two are just... not my favorites
Azealia, however, is just amazing. I wish i could describe her in a few sentences, but I can't. Listen to the 1991 EP and Aquababe and you'll understand the hype behind her.

Whoops. Not with the first post though.
Anyway just because they have more hype doesn't equal or mount to anything. In the end it's up to you to judge the quality. Some things will click with more people while others remain obscure. Depends on luck and the situation. Let's not call out some gerls while assume the others are nun. All the gerls in the OP are great!

I love Ellie, Robyn, MIA, and Santigold! Marina, Azealia, and Lana just have hype to back them up. They're great too!

Lanas production, lyrics, and melodies/ The way she sings her songs are amazing.
Ms. Banks is top notch too. Her flow and production is fire.

Azealia and Lana make great music and they both are original with effortless style.
I don't know anyone that's crazy about Marina and I don't use her personally.

I get the Lana part the most, a bit of the Marina part (I got her album) but not the Azealia hype...Im not really into rap except Nicki so I guess that could be why though.

The sound and lyrics are not everything though. Personally I think they all have that in common (including 1D). Their image is more powerful than the actual music. The music almost comes as a secondary element. That's what makes them so popular.

Wait, I lied for a minute.
I waited until Lana's hype died down and got into Born To Die last month. I mean, you don't want all this hype just to be let down. I came across a link, and said why not... Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised. She somewhat reminded me of two of my other favs (Kate Bush & Bat For Lashed) in terms of production and melodies. She has some very creative lyrics. I wouldn't say I'm crazy about her, but I enjoy the album a lot, tho.

they all just have that special something about them that others don't have, at least that's what draws them to me. just an instant fascination with them, also because they all seem to have clear visions about what they want to be and express with their music, they put a lot of effort also into visual stuff like videos and I love that.

I will also add that both Azealia and Lana's music show true hybridization like we haven't seen commercially. Not Rap, on a dance beat, or Classical 50's melodies on a hip-hop beat, but truly something else.
Lana, blends hip-hop influences with 40's and 50's tinged American music. Her lyrics are so hip-hop, with an occasional hip-hop kick and bassline, but her voice reminds you of a time that hip-hop did not exist.
Azealia takes early 00's Rap, not hip-hop, and combines it with sounds from the golden age of house and dance music, spitting her rhymes so nasty at times that you would swear that whatever she's saying cannot possibly make sense. But it does. She then borrows house lyricist flow, and teeters on a tight-rope begging one to note that what she is saying is definitely rap, but how she is saying it does not sound like the rap we know.

I cringe whenever I listen to their songs or hear them on radio. I can only imagine 12 year olds girls like them (which really is their main audience).
And how dare you compare Lana to this pleb??
Lana music is superior THAT's WHAT MAKES HER POPULAR, her image plays and integrated well with the music like a form of art but only SECONDARY. Her unreleased stuff is equally popular among fans. The lyrics she writes are thought provoking, drama inducing, and just a breath of fresh air.
Bye.
