Discussion: Your opinions of pop stars on TV judging panels

have your opinions of any pop stars changed since they've featured on a judging panel of a tv singing competition? i'm talking all of the shows here; american idol, x factor uk/usa, the voice uk/usa, etc.

will.i.am is a coach on the voice uk and my opinion of him as completely changed. i never really gave him the time of day beforehand although i did like some of BEP's earlier material. didn't realise he was so funny and outgoing lmao

Judging by numerous videos and audios leaked from auditions, The X Factor has been a confidence booster for Britney, so I approve.

Avril had her people reach out to the folks at "X Factor" to let them know she'd like to be considered for the job. Avril feels that since she came up in the biz at such a young age, she can mentor the kids on the show the right way.

It's great if they're relevant and is amazing promo (kelly rowland in the UK) it's such a shame she didn't follow up with it, she could've sold out tours after the hype she had with xFactor. She was on every damn bus, newspaper and magazine in the country but failed to smash out singles.

As for Will.I.Am I have been impressed with him and I think Tyler from his team will win.
Also it's a for entertaining purposes as a reality TV so they'll put entertaining people on there. If it was a serious competition they'd remove flops like Louis Walsh & Tulisa and get worldwide icons to judge the talent to come in and see how they would fit around the world.

Simon/LA & xTina are the only relevant judges I can think off to the shows they coach/judge on.

Her own experiences in the industry certainly make her the perfect candidate to give advice on the ups and downs of pop superstardom. She's experienced both with the entire world watching. While Spears' other projects have generally been overshadowed by her music career, this rumored gig might be the first one to take the attention away from her pop fame while using it for all it's worth.

Spears is probably up for the gig because she is basically the heir to the Madonna legacy. She truly understands how to be a pop star. And the rumors that she might join Simon Cowell on the show seem to be intriguing Spears' critics and non-devotees more than anything she's done in the past few years. Spears might have found her perfect next chapter.

Right now, it's unclear how this new career path will shape the future for Spears — musically and otherwise. But, as has always been the case for her, no one doubts she will redefine what it means to be a female pop star. She is a woman who isn't willing to go quietly into the night. For Spears, it seems she wants it all or nothing. And, who can blame her?

I honestly don't understand why people are acting like Britney's a hasbeen and is just doing this for relevancy or something like that.

In case you've forgotten the FF era was successful and scored her a #1 hit, 2 other top 10 hits including the biggest airplay hit of her career and was her most successful era 'radio' wise yet. The demand was and is still there for Britney. SHE just didn't put herself out there.

You guys act like she promoted her ass off and still flopped because noone cared, when she barely promoted and anyone would've flopped/underperformed with her promotion schedule.

The FF era could've been HUGE for her if she brought her A Game, i mean this is the same woman who went fishing when HIAM was sliding down the charts and turned down going on Alan Carr, Ellen, performing at the VMAs, X Factor UK and X Factor USA. If Britney was so keen on 'reviving her dying career' she would've actually put in the work and promoted FF.

People are confusing cause and effect. Jennifer and Christina doing reality shows isn't what killed their careers. They did reality shows BECAUSE their careers were already dead. The shows gave them the biggest hits of their careers.

Britney had said she wanted to be a judge on a show long before The X Factor rumors even began. She’s doing it just for fun and she only benefit from it. Simple as that.

Some pop stars go on these shows to boost their own profiles = desperate.
Others go on to boost the profiles of the show itself = charitable.

Certain popstars are above it, but it's not career hell since it actually helps their careers. However, the stigma associated with being a judge isn't going to go away for a while. But I do think Britney is breaking down those barriers.

She has been doing the same for 11 years and it is refreshing to see her in a new light.
