I've always tried to be completely honest and open with you about my project and how it works, and now is the time to tell you about some big changes coming up and what those changes mean.
Those of you who have been following me since the beginning will know that I've spent the last two years putting out my music independently, firstly for free and then on iTunes. I've been developing my sound, getting out and playing shows, meeting lots of you lovely people and finding creative ways to pay for it all! (If you are a newer follower you can read about this here and here )
I've always done things in a way that suits me and I'm really happy with what I've done so far. The way that you guys all over the world have supported me and shared my music is AMAZING . Here are just a few of my highlights from the last 12 months: Playing to 1,000 of you crazy guys in Slovakia (you went NUTS!!), getting to number 3 on the Spanish iTunes chart with the last EP, performing in Shanghai on the 92nd Floor of the tallest hotel in the world, making the front cover of the Sunday Times Style magazine in the UK, recording drums in Sunset Marquis studios in LA ...AND I made it into the FHM Top 100 Sexiest Women in The World....at 92... Wooohooo!!
It's been an incredible year and I've worked so hard, and it's given me so much experience...I've learned a lot about how the business works too. Over the last 9 months I've been writing lots then singing lots, then writing lots then singing LOTS, both for this new EP and for my future releases.
AND I think I've found a new part of my voice, that I never knew I had before. It's 2 or 3 times more powerful than anything I've been able to catch on record up to now and its also a bit lower and, well, different in a good way! My album will be a combination of the voice you know, and the voice you don't - yet!
Anyway, the exciting thing is; after all of the writing and recording...I think I have a song which is a BIG song! In fact, I think I have two of them!
I know that I've never had songs like these before, and I also know that I cannot do them justice by putting them out there on my own. I don't have the resources.
SO...at the end of February, I played these songs to a couple of people in London, and a couple of people in Los Angeles who agreed with me that I should launch my career around these two songs. Which means that...after all this time....I have decided that I am going to sign to a Major Record Label!!!
To make sure that they understood that this whole thing is first and foremost about my complete life long love of writing, performing and playing music - this is the first thing i showed them........
The meetings were very exciting and went really well, and the lawyers are "talking" etc. etc. For the first time, I have a MAJOR need to do a major recording deal (the need being the promotion of my new songs and my album)!!!! This all means that the next EP, will most likely be the final release for me as an independent artist.
It's a big change, and will probably take a bit of getting used to, but at some stage in the next 8 - 12 months, I will be able to service my new record to radio stations, TV, press...which I've never done before, and it is MASSIVELY exciting!
If you're interested enough to have got this far (in my HUGE blog), then hopefully you'll be around for a while yet...and I promise i'll continue to keep you updated on all my plans and happenings! You guys have been here for me for the last 26 MONTHS...so THANK YOU!
SO....on to the NEW EP!!!!!
This new EP is the most interesting and best stuff I had from the new songs I've written that weren't the other two big tracks I mentioned before. I am SOOOO proud of the work, and I want to say a massive thanks to the team, who have stuck with me writing and making these records! This EP has been made in Kent, Shoreditch, Portland and LA! I know you guys have waited a long time for this, but I really feel like it's gonna be worth the wait. And of all the EP names I came up with, along with your ideas too, at the end of the day, the most appropriate name, and the name I've chosen, is... "LATE" I think it's pretty perfect...because it is so LATE!
There are 4 brand new tracks, and it'll be available to buy on iTunes from 31st May, and I'm also gonna stream it here on my website from midnight (UK time) on the day of release. And... there's going to be a sneak peak of ALL FOUR tracks in the next day or so. Oh...and If you can't wait that long and want an extra early shneaky peak, you can join my email list here.
I'm so excited for you to finally hear it! It's the support from you guys that has got me this far, and it really means a LOT. A record deal is not the finish line, it's only another beginning. I've learned so much in the past two years, and I feel like this is the right move at the right time...and, I know it sounds a bit cheeeeeesy, but I really hope you're all gonna come along with me? WE'RE GONNA TAKE OVER THE WORLD (evil laugh)
I imagine the debut album will be the 2 new tracks acting as lead/2nd singles, some other new tracks, plus her strongest EP material. As long as Left Too Late makes it on the album, I'm happy!
What this means:
- We'll get high budget videos.
- We'll get a worldwide tour, even if it's small.
- They will have her collaborate with a big male artist in America for her breakthrough (a la Ke$ha and others).
- We'll get a full length album within the next year, assuming she doesn't sign to Sky Ferreira's label.
- We'll get promotion.
