Some people stan differently than others.

Though I am often appreciative of their efforts, I don't think I could ever be like the people who have twitters/tumblrs/websites dedicated to a single artist... like, I couldn't take my stanship that far. Like, I couldn't have my fave's name in my twitter username or anything like that or attack people just for not liking her.

True stanning is an obsession, and like other obsessions, it's a very common psychological phenomena.

Yes. A lot of people here don't know what "stanning" means. It's extremely obsessive and almost psychotic, I mean we got our name from a song about some fan who's so obsessed with Eminem that he kills himself and his girlfriend over Em not writing him back

The definition of the word is constantly changing. If it just means huge huge huge fan then it's not weird. If it means being very aggressive towards haters and stalking your fave then yes it is weird.

Once stanning becomes a part of your life outside of ATRL or whatever blog you frequent, it's a bit much.

Exactly, everybody has their passions and admiration (whether is other people or an activity) and will always feel connected to it and react like it's a personal issue, but everybody takes it with a different level of engagement, which can go from "normal" to "weird".

The thing is that the term "stan" has kind of lighten up to be used colloquially as expressing admiration (and obsession) over anything, especially recording artists.
