Amy Winehouse was "freaked out" by Adele's worldwide success, Mark Ronson has claimed.
The producer believes Winehouse felt "competitive" towards Adele following the huge international success of 21, but maintained that the late star was also a fan.
"She was in a bad state, God knows why," Ronson told The Village Voice. "I think that the Adele thing had Amy freaked out.
"She liked her, but Adele's success was making Amy feel upset, competitive, restless. Anyway, we lost touch briefly. And before she and I could really start the process of beginning a new album, it was too late.''
Adele's 21 recently became the fifth best-selling album in UK music history, overtaking Michael Jackson's Thriller.
The collection is also the best-selling album of the 21st century, with Winehouse's Back To Black in second place.
