There is someone I know from other forums, and he is 18 or 19 year old high-functioning autistic adult with aspergers (a social disorder). He currently lives at home with his step mother & father.

In the video, he had recently been in a car accident, and has finals coming up. The sound is kind of crappy, but his parents are disciplining him about leaving food around in his room.

I'm interested into knowing if you think the parents are justified with the criticism of the their son.

He privately had a camera, that's why there's not much of a video & the sound is kind of off.

I don't see how this is different then any other child being nagged on by their parents. People with aspergers and high-functioning autism are more then capable of handling criticism.

Was it just a telling off or did they hit him at all? I'm not about to watch two videos just so i can see the type of discipline.

If they were hittin him, then it's wrong. But if it was just a scoldin then I don't really see the issue. Autism varies alot and it can be hard to make an autistic person pay attention to you and the subject at hand. And if it's just about tidying his room, the point of him having finals is irrelevant, as is the car accident as long as it didn't cause any serious injuries and made it difficult to move around.

My brother is autistic and he does much of the same with leaving plates and such around because he sometimes get's overwhelmed or sometimes he's just lazy. As long as they're not beating on him then it's fine.

My uncle is schizophrenic and there's no difference on how we discipline him compared to this so I don't see an issue. The father got a little furious though, I thought he was going to hit him.

My bother is autistic my parents used to spank him when he was bad. He learned what he did was wrong.

In the video, the dad began to say that he will have no choice but to beat him if he messes up again.

I was really horrified with the video. It's one thing if they scold him, but from what he has said, he is constantly ridiculed by his parents & this sort of treatment is normal. His father even told him if he leaves food in his room again, he will have no choice but to kick him out of the house. IMO, that's very extreme, and these parents need to get some reality check.

They did nothing wrong, I actually think they handled it very mature.
Who know how many times this has happened, this type o of behavioris normal.

That stepfather just sounds a bit like an asshole. He doesn't understand Aspergers at all.

I'll admit, I'm an Aspie myself, and i'll admit my room is a mess, but, this guy is clearly not on the same level of being able to take care of himself as me. I may have plates and stuff around and I do eat in my room as well but I ultimately have a trash can to put my stuff in. And there's a place in the hallway that I can put dishes in.

He also is just really asshole like when responding to his parents. Pretty like all the asperger kids I've met.

I don't know what to say honestly. They're all at fault here.
