Madonna "MDNA": Billboard Drops Her to No. 18, Ticket Sales Suffer
I already told you that Madonna‘s “MDNA” album dropped to 16 on hitsdailydouble.com. Billboard, which is usually kinder, has put the album at number 18 this week. And the bad sales and bad press are not helping her at the concert box office. According to the ticket service sites attached to Madonna’s website, the “MDNA” touring is suffering. For example, she has one show at Yankee Stadium that’s sold out, but another with plenty of seats remaining at good prices. The sold out show may be due to block sales from scalpers.
On StubHub, you can buy a seat where I normally sit for Yankee Games for $275–it’s a very good seat. Ticket prices for that night, September 6, range from $90 to over $7000. (This includes cocaine and sex–just kidding.) But the next night, September 7th, you can sit on the field with StubHub for $350 if so inclined. There are plenty of seats in the $80 range. The whole place looks pretty much up for grabs.
Bigger problems await Madonna in Europe, where the tour starts. She has yet to sell out Hyde Park in London in July. Most of the tickets in Paris are available, with good seats available on the floor for 81 euros.
Meanwhile, in the US, most of the VIP packages are marked ‘sold,’ although again, they’re turning up on StubHub. Ticket speculators may be caught short. There are plenty of seats right now at good prices for Madison Square Garden in November. And that’s a bad sign. By then, “MDNA” will be long, long one unless a single hit develops–so far it hasn’t. Madonna may have to take one of those songs and go back in the studio with a guest star, or add tracks to a new edition of “MDNA” that people want to hear.

I guess he missed the memo that the tour has thus far grossed $250 million.
