‘Femme Fatale’ had music that both critics and pop fans have enjoyed, but it had very little and bad promotion. Since the sales of ‘Femme Fatale’ and ‘4’ are always compared and they are not that far apart (just a little over 700k worldwide,) do you think Britney would have benefited or suffered by doing ‘4’ type promo?
This was the promotional campaign for Beyoncé’s ‘4:’ (well, most of it)
- Target deal including a TV campaign (it helped Taylor Swift sell over 1 million in her first week)
- American Idol Finale: 29.3 million viewers
- ’Run the World’ video premiere on American Idol: 23.6 million viewers
- Oprah Finale: 16.4 million viewers
- MTV Video Music Awards: 12.4 million viewers
- The 35th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular: 8.6 million viewers
- Billboard Music Awards: 7.9 million viewers
- BET Awards: 7.7 million viewers
- Glastonbury Festival
- Good Morning America
- Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
- Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (she performed two times)
- Le Grand Journal
- The View
- X Factor France
- ‘4 Intimate Nights’ aired on UK TV
- MTV Special: Year of ‘4’
- Music video releases beyond just singles
The negative side of Britney doing this much promo is that her performances are not what they used to be. If Britney had done as much promo for ‘Femme Fatale’ as Beyoncé did for ‘4,’ do you think she could’ve sold more or perhaps passed ‘4’ in sales? Or would she have suffered from backlash over her performances?
