To commemorate the 40th anniversary of Janis Joplin’s posthumous album, The Pearl Sessions, Columbia/Legacy is releasing two more albums to add to the psychedelic blues singer’s catalog. The rereleased version of Pearl is a two-disc set that contains the original master mono mixes of Joplin’s biggest singles as well as previously unreleased versions of those hits. Produced by Paul Rothchild, the double LP will be available April 17.
Additionally, Columbia/Legacy will also release, Big Brother and the Holding Company Featuring Janis Joplin-Live at the Carousel Ballroom 1968 in honor of Joplin and Owsley (“Bear”) Stanley. The legendary soundman supervised the mastering of the album before his fatal accident last year. Released on March 13 (and available March 27 as a special two 12” vinyl collector’s edition), the live show’s recording marks the one-year anniversary of his passing.
Lastly, a limited edition 10” sampler entitled Highlights from The Pearl Sessions will drop this Record Store Day.
YESSS Queen Janis! There will never be anyone like her again. Pearl is amazing Hopefully this will help her reach a younger audience.
It's been almost 40 years, and NO ONE could be considered to be the heir of Queen Janis. She's untouchable, sitting pretty on her throne. One of the best women in music from the '70s, other than the trinity (Joni Mitchell - Carole King - Carly Simon). Gone too soon. And still sad every time I listen to Pearl cause of imagining how prettier it would be if Queen truly finished it.
The youngsters better listen to the Queen, or they will miss something that's truly beautiful.
But if there's a 'new' Janis, I'd like to give her a shot.
Janis is amazing!! I don't think this release will reach much of an audience, but I'm sure going to get my copy. I hope it gets more people into her amazing music, though.

I LOVE your avatar first of all.
And I'm kind of pessimistic with the sales number. But I'm glad that the labels chose to release it anyway.
