A couple of days back, something really, really weird happened. This Valentine’s Day thing got a little out-of hand and it was a chance for everyone to go crazy for 24 hours. Of course, this meant a whole lotta love songs – rappers getting emotional and singers gettin’ their croon on. In and among the madness, slow jam specialist Usher decided it was time to unleash a little something he’s been cooking up with Diplo. ‘Meh’, you may think ‘Sounds like nothing new’. Well that’s where everyone went wrong. Take the time to listen and, if you’ve had a reason to be disheartened by Usher’s recent work, “Climax” may just prove there’s hope.
You may not be aware, but Usher had been doing a lot of things wrong with the last album. It was a bit all over the place and far too reliant on the trendy Electro sounds. Knowing that, many won’t have been excited by the prospect of a link-up between him and Diplo. But guess what happened? Amazing things. It’s not exactly clear how it happened or what this all means, but “Climax” is the beginning of something huge for R&B. There was a reason to write Usher off in 2011, but now it looks like we might have to take all that back.
On 14th February 2012, R&B came back. (Sorry for not letting you know until now. Let everyone else know though. Tell Mr. Raymond to make a video for it too, while you’re there).
