Does the number of posts a user makes generally reflect on how well the member is respected on the forum community, or is it more about sign up date? Perhaps it could be neither. Just wanted to know.

More than checking for such details, the one and only way to find out how well a member is is by directly talking to him. Respect comes afterwards.
on ATRL people are obsessed with postcount & joindate.
In reality it doesn't matter at all- you could have 9000000 posts and you could have joined the 1st day ATRL was invented and you can still be the hugest duchebag in the world. Base your opinion off someone by the type of stuff they post- not their postcount. Its such a rookie forum mistake.
Sadly, some members on here state things like "your opinion is invalid" and "who cares what you think?" to members with a low post count. It really does not matter to me.
if you have a low post count, some users usually think your opinion is invalid
and if you are a new member, some users think your opinion is invalid cause you are only new to the site.
I judge members by the quality of their posts, not the quantity or join date. Besides a person can be a long-time lurker, gain a lot of knowledge about the community here and then decide to join. Not every newbie is ignorant to how ATRL works.
I don't look at post counts nor do I care. I've noticed that a lot of people I joined with have like, 10,000 posts+ already and I'm like how do you do it? But majority of those people with huge post counts in short period of time are probably the ones that are watching their post count the most.
Join date doesn't matter either. I hear some members using the others' join dates to show them that they know little (which is ignorant) in certain topics, such as political parties or the economy.
