Though this video is old, I feel it's important to post it because a lot of you have this misconception that "Lady Gaga believes she is the leader of the gay community" or that "Lady Gaga has taken it upon herself to represent the gay community". Here she is talking about JUST that last year after the Much Music Video Awards in Canada. Mind you, she was one of the only celebrities to stop for the press and answer questions after the show.
For those of you who can't hear, and for those of you who need what she said to be repeated:
Quote:
I would say that I am just part of the voice and it is never wrong to speak up in the defense of love, unity, and togetherness. I have always had gay friends and I've been very, very rooted in the gay community since I was young and I feel a moral obligation to defend my fanbase and make the world a better place. If some people don't want to be defined by me as their mother, that is wonderful. I don't view it in that way, I view it as me as part of the generation, not as the leader.
So now that we have that settled, what's the next insult y'all are going to come up with?
"She thinks she speaks for all gay people" has always been my least favorite method of attacking Gaga. Like what, would you rather she just didn't do **** to help the gay rights movement?
