3 teens knock 65 year old man off Bicycle attempting to mug

A 65-year-old man riding his bicycle along a Berks County trail became the target of three teenage boys looking to mug him.
In a matter of moments the teens became the target of the cyclist resulting in 2 shot and 1 dead.
The man was riding his bicycle about 11 a.m. on the Thun Trail near the Bertolet Fishing Dock in West Reading when the boys knocked him off his bicycle and pinned him against a fence in a robbery attempt, police said.
Two of the boys were assaulting the man when he pulled a handgun and shot them, police said.
Julias Johnson, a 16-year-old on probation, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other boy was taken to Reading Hospital with a single gunshot wound and is expected to survive.
Police said they took the uninjured boy and the victim to the Cumru Township police station for questioning.
They consulted Berks County District Attorney John Adams, released the victim and sent the boy to the Youth Detention Center.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams said he does not condone violence, but said the man had no choice but to defend himself against the teens.
Adams added the victim did not provoke the attack, could not get away and feared for his life.
A grandfather died of a suspected heart attack after trying to fight off armed robbers at his home.
Edward Syrad, 64, was having an evening cigarette in his garden when two men with a gun climbed over his fence and dragged him inside. The retired businessman is said to have wrestled with one of the men before they tied him up.
His wife, Anne, 60, was also bound and gagged and taken to a separate room. The robbers then ransacked the house in Barnehurst, South London, before escaping. Thirty minutes later, Mrs Syrad raised the alarm after she freed her arms and legs and hopped into the next room where she found her husband dead.
I don't think it was necessary to shoot the three boys in order to defend himself, unless they have their own guns of course. I'm sure that the three would run away for just exposing the weapon.
