UPDATE (1/17/12):

CBS RADIO Top 40 WXRK (92.3 NOW)/NEW YORK's morning maven NICK CANNON returned to the air TODAY (1/17) at 6a, and chatted about his hospitalization and road to recovery.

CANNON also rescheduled a special guest at 7:40a, when HOWARD STERN joined him on the air. STERN's last broadcast on the 92.3 frequency was DECEMBER 16, 2005.

CANNON was originally scheduled to return last week (NET NEWS 1/9), but bumped it back a week.

And despite wife Mariah Carey urging their fans to 'pray for Nick', the singer doesn't look too fearful about his health given her Twitter activity.

The mother-of-two, 41, bizarrely posted a photo of herself posing beside an ailing Nick, 31, in his hospital bed in Aspen, Colorado.

But the couple are clearly optimistic he will recover, with Mariah describing his kidney failure as 'mild'.

The Fantasy singer posted news of Nick's illness in the early hours of this morning.

She wrote: 'Please pray for Nick as he's fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure. #mybraveman.'

She then wrote a more detailed description of his medical drama on her official website.

She wrote: 'This is us in the hospital - role reversal; Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dem babies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are.

'We're trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful. They tried to kick me out of the hospital but here I am pon de bed with Mr. C.

'We're doing OK but we're "straaaaaanded in Aspen". #DramaticDivaPlace (I know, we could be in a lot worse places) but the truth is as long as we're together, we're OK.

The couple have been spending the Christmas and New Year period in Aspen with their twins Moroccan and Monroe.

Nick's hospitalisation perhaps explains why the couple haven't been photographed out and about in Aspen since New Year's Eve.

Approximately 14.7 percent of all African Americans over 20 years of age (3.7 million) have diabetes. On average, African Americans are twice as likely to have diabetes as white Americans of similar age.

National surveys show that the number of cases of diabetes among African Americans has doubled. Yet, about a third of the diabetes cases among African Americans are undiagnosed.

The most common type of diabetes in African Americans is type 2 diabetes. The risk factors for this type of diabetes include: family history, impaired glucose tolerance, diabetes during pregnancy, hyperinsulinemia and insulin resistance, obesity and physical inactivity.

African Americans with diabetes are more likely to develop complications of diabetes and to have greater disability from these complications than white Americans. African-Americans experience kidney failure about four times more often than white Americans with diabetes. They are also more likely to develop other serious complications such as heart disease and strokes and to experience greater disability than white Americans with diabetes.

High blood pressure is the second leading cause of kidney failure among African Americans, accounting for 34 percent of the new cases each year. However, high blood pressure remains the leading cause of death overall in African Americans because of its link with heart attacks and strokes.

It is not known for sure why African Americans are more prone to develop high blood pressure. More than 40 percent of African Americans are believed to have high blood pressure, however. African-Americans also have higher death rates from causes related to high blood pressure.

Many African Americans may be unaware of the connection between high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease. Reports indicate that about 43 percent of African Americans who are on dialysis were not aware they had kidney failure until about one week before starting dialysis.
