I've begun to think they're not beneficial to ATRL (keep in mind I DO use them like everyone else - especially Rihanna & GaGa's, Drake's, etc.)

But...

-Do they encourage a divide between members? ATRL is full of stan wars, do album threads make a divide more bold on the site than there would be otherwise?
-Should the topics discussed in the threads be more open to everyone? The album threads have interesting discussion in them, such as potential future single selections, discussions of how an album era should go in general, etc. What if these discussions were made more bold to all the other "non-stans" or non-Album Thread viewers? Wouldn't it be more interesting to get more diverse opinions (from the non-stans)?
-...Or would an album threadless-ATRL crash & burn? Would members feel they had no "home" on the site & thus lash out by posting flamebait?

I think the reason why ATRL has a lot of members is because its a wide community, it's not a forum only about a certain artist but contrains all and if ATRL has no album threads or a main thread about an artist then some would rather go to the main/popular forums of their faves. Plus ATRL provides info about other artists as well which is an advantage against other popstar forums. I think it wouldn't work.

Actually it is, at first those type of threads weren't even allowed. And when they were, they didn't grow as big or as fast.

I think it might be better, some people only post***** in the album threads so it would discourage post whoring and make people actually contribute for a change

That's sort of what happens - what reinvigorates discussion is usually either promo, single announcements or a video. Inbetween that, sometimes it gets repetitive.

I don't know about other stanbases, but most of the Gaga stans I know basically live on the Born This Way thread...

I don't know if it would be better or worse though... maybe ATRL would have a lack of places to generally discuss about a specific era...

Yeah, but let's not all act like all the other **** that people are making into threads is any more beneficial or less repetitive...

"Who's the queen of pop?"

"Is Rihanna the biggest popstar in the world?"

"Is Gaga copying Madonna?"

"Is Adele setting fire to our faves?"

"Katy discounts her latest single"

I don't know how ATRL would deal with the influx of delusional stans who stay secluded in their fave's respective thread.

I'm glad they are there, we as the most hated stanbase on ATRL would not be able to have a proper shadeless discussion in this forum

Could ATRL survive without SYG is the question? It would be a challenge for some of the other posters to find a sensible way to drag an artist with the same caliber of using derogatory terms without doing so. It would be a chance to see who the real "draggers" are. It will separate the "KWEENS' from the *******.

Those album threads are giant post-whoring hubs that only appeal to a fraction of members on this site

They are beneficial. Most of the members that never leave the album threads are irritating and it keeps them out of the other sections of the forum.

regardless if it was an album thread or simply an appreciation thread, stans of each artist would need somewhere to discuss the details of each era.

Now with Base, the Album Threads should be removed.

I think there will always be album threads, they're especially needed around the release date when everyone (including people who are not fans) wants to review it. But their lifespan is now being reconsidered. When the album has been out for a week or two, there's nothing relevant to be added that can't be posted somewhere else. Music News should be about new music, new releases.
