I'm gay, but I'm not proud of it.

I'm not ashamed, either. It's just one aspect of me.

I understand "gay pride" is a way of raising your self esteem etc. etc. and if that's your thing fine. But I'd rather be proud of things I've worked hard to achieve, whether it's winning sporting contests, getting a good degree, getting a good job, or fulfilling personal goals.

Does anyone else feel this way?

You should be proud of every part of you, whether you achieved it or was born with it It's a sticky subject though.

I'm not quite at that level where I can say I'm proud anyway. Too much things going on. I got over feeling ashamed long ago, tho. But feeling comfortable with who you are is still an achievement.

But why? I also have brown hair. Not paticularly proud of that.

I think being gay has become so overrated.

People don't get murdered and treated like second class citizens for having brown hair

I'm not ashamed of having brown brown hair either, doesn't mean I'm proud of it.

The reason to be proud isn't literally just in relation to being gay, it's more about being proud to be WHO you are despite all the adversity, which many face as a result of being gay.

Because gay people are so often judged, saying your "proud" is a way of proclaiming you don't give a ****. Its owning your freedom in a sense.

I kinda agree. I understand Gay pride is trying to make it more accepted but I feel it encourages people to just see us as gay when that's just an aspect of us. I'm openly gay and I'm proud of who I am as a person but being gay is only part of being that person.
