Gene Simmons Calls Madonna A “Karaoke Singer”
Quote:
KISS’s Gene Simmons, who is known for his outlandish behavior and antics, has been making headlines for bashing everyone’s favorite material girl. Just two days after it was announced that Madonna would be performing at the upcoming Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show, Simmons wasted no time at expressing his discontent at the decision.
“I love all karaoke singers,” Simmons sarcastically told a TMZ cameraman when the topic of Madonna performing at the Super Bowl came up. “I like all the girl singers who get up and sing with tapes. Shame on you.”
Simmons then went into a rant, expressing his gripes with singers who perform with tapes and stating that he feels it is unethical to perform like that.
“You’ve got to have some integrity,” he said. “I don’t care what your music is. Have some integrity — be real or full disclosure before the fact. Hold up a sign saying, ‘Seventy percent of what you hear is fake. It’s a tape. I’m a karaoke singer.’ Say it!”
Simmons, who apparently feels that a band would be better for the occasion stated that he felt Madonna was not an “appropriate” choice for the Super Bowl. He then said ”By the way, Madonna’s terrific … I hate the tapes.”
The Super Bowl XLVI will be taking place on February 5th in Indianapolis. The Halftime Show is one of the most celebrated elements of the Super Bowl, and like the commercials, many people are just as excited for it as they are for the game itself. Madonna will be participating in an exciting performance that has been co-created with Cirque Du Soleil.
Madonna is in good company, as past Super Bowl Halftime Show performers include musical legends Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney and U2.
According to the NFL, More than 162 million TV viewers watched last year’s halftime show, making it the most watched musical event of the year.
