Adele receives plaque for sales of 5 million albums
Quote:
Where has Adele been lately? In New York City, it turns out. The Grammy-nominated star was in the Big Apple this week to accept a special award: a plaque commemorating sales of five million copies of her album 21, and 11 million singles total sold in the U.S. Worldwide, 21 has sold over 13 million copies, according to Adele's record company. It's nominated for Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album -- and those are just two of the six Grammy nods that Adele received Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, everyone wants to know if Adele's vocal issues will be cleared up by February 12, which is when the Grammys will take place. As one of the top nominees, the show would suffer were she not there to sing or accept awards. Asked that question backstage at the Grammy nominations concert Wednesday night, Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, told reporters, "We're always in touch with her representatives. Obviously we're fans. She's done incredibly well in the nominations, but really first and foremost has gotta be her health." He added, "We'll be watching and waiting and hoping, and if she's well and able, we'd love to see her there."
