Watching this season of UK X-Factor, I have seen at least ten of the female contestants rocking the Kool-Aid red color Rihanna sported for the last fifteen months or so.

Contrast that to her - I've maybe seen five girls in real life, on the streets of NYC, with that color.

Now Rihanna's done 60K - the equivalent of 300 K - in one day's sales in the UK.

In America, she's released her sixth album that will not make it to number one.

Why is there such a discrepancy between her status in Britain and her status in the States? I want to have a DISCUSSION.

Because UK is better than USA in every way.
Their artists first of all.

Because her style of music appeals to the UK more.

We Found Love is typical UK track though, no surprise that its slaying the uK so hard.

But she had more #1s in US. 11 vs 6.
WFL stayed pretty much equal amount of weeks in both countries. 5 in UK so far, at least 5 in US.

I live in London and never seen anyone sporting her red hair looks, so it's not really a reliable variable.

She's big in the U.S. too. Otherwise, her singles wouldn't do as well as they do (even if the single might be the pits). People here just don't trust that they are going to get their money's worth if they buy an entire Rihanna album. But they'll gladly run to iTunes to purchase those singles tho.

Her stats in America are what a lot of artist's wish they had. They are nothing to sneeze at.

It might be true when you compare population, but definitely not when we compare recent album sales. 60K in the UK = ~100-150K in the US, not more.

I honestly don't know why the UK and parts of Europe are so crazy about her (I mean, in such a HUGE way); her heavy promo last year certainly helped, but I guess her music is generally more appealing to UK audience.
She still is a huge radio/digital force in the US, though, and her album sales are kinda disapponting when you consider she has had such a big streak of hits and when you compare them to UK/Europe sales, but they are good. TTT 1st week predictions are awful, but I feel like it's too early to tell.

She's big here. Her singles really do well, but she just doesn't appeal to most album buyers.

Just because they don't open huge first week means nothing. Other open huge die down after a free weeks!

So what's the difference then? In the UK, she does - she's had two multi-platinum albums. Even Rated R went double platinum. So what is she missing here that she has there?
