It was today announced that the 2011 MTV Europe Music Awards, broadcast last Sunday, November 6, at 9.00pm on MTV, received the highest EMA audience ratings for the UK since Edinburgh in 2003.
Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) UK & Ireland said there was a consolidated total audience of 306.3K and the highest consolidated 16 to 34 audience of 125.7K since Liverpool in 2008.
Last Sunday night’s broadcast of the brand’s largest international music property ranked MTV as the 3rd highest rating digital channel on the pay platform for 16-34s.
The 2011 MTV EMA also outperformed online with EMA related page views on MTV.co.uk totalling almost 500,000, up an incredible +530% year on year.
Kerry Taylor, SVP, Director of Television, MTV UK & Ireland said:
“We are absolutely delighted with the success of this year’s EMA.
“The overwhelming response to the show, coupled with today’s ratings, perfectly demonstrates to audiences around the world that the UK, and specifically the beautiful City of Belfast, was the perfect choice to continue the EMA legacy.”
Audience ratings for the 2011 MTV EMA: Red Carpet show, broadcast before the main show at 8.00pm, increased by 400% compared to 2010, with a total audience of 193.2 and 92.6 16-34s tuning in to watch presenters and performers walk the Carpet.
MTV itself has estimated that the worldwide audience for the 2010 EMAs was 22 million which, is somewhat short of 1.2 billion.
