What is this mistaken belief that a song has to be successful in order to have influence? Patsy Cline didn't sell any records at all. Yet it's obvious that her influence is undeniable in the Country genre influencing major players like Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. Same with Janis Joplin - artists like P!nk, Avril, Alanis would have never existed without her influence.
Regardless HIAM hit #1 in like 20 countries when it was released, it sold over 400k first week, was a top 5 airplay hit, has like 80 million or more youtube views and peaked at #3 on pop. It's not as if no one heard it.

HIAM has had a lot of influence on dubstep. If you think dubstep is notable or not is another matter entirely.
