I was talking to a friend about our experiences in the 8.8 earthquake in Chile on 2010 so I wanted to ask y'all if you guys have ever lived a natural disaster like an earthquake, a tornado or something like that.
My experience: I was invited to Pichilemu, where there was a tsunami, but I decided to stay at home. So I went to party at my classmate's house and then I went home. I was sleeping when I felt the earth shaking. My dad said "it's an earthquake" and then we walked to the front door. When I got to the door I thought the world was ending and I was going to die. I actually thought it was a black hole or something like that because I saw lights on the sky and people running on the streets . My house didn't suffer any damages but it was the worst experience I've ever lived.
The worst thing in my area during my life was a grand flood in 1996. I was a child but I still remember pieces of it. It mostly caused physical damage of $500 million, but a few thousand people (including my family) were forced out of their homes due to it. Scary times.
The closet would probably be a nasty blizzard. I was stranded at work for 2 hours waiting for a ride home. Temperatures dropped to below -30, and you couldn't see anything half an inch away, and the wind was brutal.
That was December of 2009.
That Chile earthquake sounds SCARY. I've never encountered any natural disaster in my life, not even a minor earthquake tremor. Worst I've experienced is a hard rainstorm that knocked down telephone poles all over town but that's the most extreme.
