Be that as it may, some people need their family and friends to go through life and are not going to risk those relationships.

People tend to have this romanticized view of "coming out" to a loving family with open arms and endless support and living a life of absolute freedom. That's not always the case. People have lost families, careers etc; all for declaring something they really shouldn't have to declare in the first place.

Those familial relationships may not be immediately ruined, but it could strain things.

Thats mainly because lesbianism and "girl on girl" action is so fetishized in the media.

But lesbians face the same hardships gay men do, maybe even more. A lot of lesbian relationships don't get real respect or support because people view it as a phase or look it at it the same way they look at two girls kissing each other on a reality show.
