It defined a whole generation + was the place to promote, premiere your video, etc.
My question is, do you think that MTV could bring it back and revive the show?
I know they aren't into music television anymore, but does anyone else find that TRL would discover new success if they found the right hosts and revived the show appropriately?
Imagine if the votes were predominately obtained through social media such as Twitter and Facebook. It would be an entirely fresh way to reinvent TRL for our current time + it seems as though the entertainment industry is constantly redoing things/bringing back old shows and/or movies.
What do you guys think? Could TRL see another life if MTV ever put any thought into it?
I'd honestly like to think that Music Television has a future. And that with the right execution, it could be revived. Since it seems like I see a lot of people who miss the good old MTV days.
But looking at the facts, it's just not true. People aren't here for that anymore, not when they can watch only the videos they want to see on VEVO, without having to go through videos they don't like, and annoying ass 10 minute ringtone commercials.
I don't think so. They need to find a way to make it captivating again.
I mean is anyone going to wait for a specific time to watch videos with a big ass number covering part of the screen, unnecessary text running across the bottom of the screen, being interrupted by some dumbass saying something and going "WHOOOO."? Plus, they don't even show the whole video.
With the internet you can just go on YouTube/Vevo and watch the complete video whenever you want - uninterrupted.
As much as I'd like to see it on-air again, it would most likely fail. Everyone could just watch the full-length videos on Youtube rather a 30 second preview.
That said, I watched TRL for the guests and performances.
To be honest i never really liked TRL that much.
i didnt even realize this website was called ATRL because TRL until like weeks after i joined. TRL is so irrelevant i forgot about it entirely.
I actually kinda think that if they had waited a little longer the whole "pop revival" in recent years could have gave it a big boost. Like I can imagine GaGa, Britney, Rihanna, Katy, Beyonce, etc stans all voting for their faves' videos on TRL.
