And, here's a bizarro stat that got some attention: the average CD is listened to 'fewer than 10 times after purchase,' according to a stat from NARM. It was mentioned last week during a presentation by MOG executive Anu Kirk.
Does that sound about right for you?
p.s. NARM is The National Association of Recording Merchandisers.
Depends on what they mean by "listening to a CD". I don't necessarily listen to every single song on an album more than 10 times after I purchase it, but I will put most CD's into my computer and play the majority of it over 10 times.
for nowadays that sounds right. The only physical CDS I buy now are ones from my favs or ones that are on sale at the store. Which all get put on my iPod after I buy them.
I listen to a physical cd once after purchase and then I load it to my iTunes library so that I can load it to my iPod. The physical copy is then put on my closet shelve, never to be touched again.
I understand why the number is so low. Some albums I purchase (digitally) will end up with 1500+ total plays within 6-12 months on my computer, while others will only be played 5-15 times (50-200 total plays) in whole. It depends on the album and artist.
In terms of a physical CD, though, I haven't played any more than 3-5 times in over 5 years since I use iTunes.

this...except I put mine in a shelf and they are arranged in alphabetical order and on display
I listen to a CD once or twice, just to see which songs I should keep or leave out when downloading them onto iTunes.
I used to listen to them in my car if I forgot to charge my iPod but I bought an iPhone with the starter kit that came with a phone car charger, so now I don't have to worry about charging anything to listen to music.
