L.A. Reid: "Kanye West is one of the greatest of all time!"
X Factor USA judge LA Reid has touted Kanye West as "one of the greatest" performers of all-time.
Reid, who served as executive producer for West's LP My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, expressed his belief that the rapper is vastly underrated by fans and critics.
"Kanye West is, for me, one of the greatest - if not the greatest - performers, entertainers, musicians of all-time. He's right up there with the greats," the music executive told Access Hollywood Live.
Reid went on to say: "People may not recognize it today, but I promise you a few years from now, we'll look back and say, 'Oh my god - what an amazing, amazing talent!' Now, people love Kanye for sure, but he's great… on the level of Prince… but modern day.
"[West is] hip-hop, he's not the same thing [as Prince]. He doesn't play guitar, he doesn't play piano. He's not that kind of performer, but for hip-hop he is a king."
He will go down as one of the greatest artists/performers of our generation and possibly of all-time. He is one of the few artists of this time who has a mixture of strong critical acclaim, cultural impact (good or bad), name recognition and commercial success.
I agree here. He is definitely not underrated. He is the most critically acclaimed rapper of this generation (and one of the most awarded) and has gone platinum or multi-platinum with each of his albums. There's no way he is "underrated" by fans and critics. I'm not sure where LA was going with that.
