The band began work in May 2011 in their Las Vegas studio on their next album. In a Q Magazine interview in July, Flowers stated that

The band also performed a new song at the London Scala on June 23rd, called "The Rising Tide". Brandon stated that the song still was raw, and that the band was unsure if the song could make it on the album.
The new song sounds like a Brandon Flowers song rather than a Killers song and so did their latest christmas single. This album better goes back to their roots (aka Hot Fuss, their BEST album to date!)
