Jon's Message to his fans about his new record
It’s 1:16 AM, I’m sitting at my dining room table with my headphones on listening to the mixes for the new record as they come in and loving every second of it! This record has been a long time coming (Which is why it’s called “Forever If Ever”).
When the band and I got off the road on our last tour, I knew I wanted to take a year off and just write. So that’s what I did. At that time, I was living out in California where I could walk out my front door and see mountains and ocean at the same time…not a bad place to write record.
So I wrote and wrote and wrote and made demos and wrote and made demos, etc… and after about a year of writing I started looking for a producer to record this new album with me. Long story short, I spent pretty much the next 9 months trying to find a producer that both my label and I could agree on. Once I found that person I ran into more trouble when my label went into a financial freeze, so to speak. So, after working and working and trying to coordinate schedules and decide which songs to record and what tweaks to make to those songs, etc…, after all that, I couldn’t make a record due to budget issues at the label. So needless to say it was a pretty frustrating time. I had never had so much trouble recording some music. And the funny thing was that I had never been more excited about the music I wanted to record.
At that point it had been 2 years since I started writing songs for this album and I knew that I couldn’t wait any longer to start recording. So I told my label that I wanted to stay with them and make this record together but that it absolutely had to happen right then… I mean, you can’t disappear forever and expect to still have a career. Well they said they couldn’t do that. So that officially ended my time at Island Records.
SO… after 2 very frustrating years, I was without a record and without a label.
Longer story short, I decided to just make this freaking record on my own. I used my band, I recorded the songs I wanted to record, I played them the way I wanted to play them and I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED it. For the first time I was able to make the record I’ve always wanted to make.
What I want you to know is this: I love this record. I know every artist is supposed to say that about their new records but I have never been able to make a record exactly the way I wanted to make it before. So this is my music. If you have been a fan of my music in the past then I hope you love this record. If you can’t stand my music then THIS is the record I want you to hear.
Ok – there you go. That’s the story in a nutshell.
Thank you guys for all your support – it means so much!
Hope you’re having a great day.
See you soon. -j-
