Nicki Minaj found herself in a spot of bother after performing in Jamaica for the first time over the weekend.
The Super Bass rapper, who played the closing night of Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay on Saturday, was fined by authorities who didn't appreciate Nicki swearing throughout her set.
Minaj's use of expletives was a direct violation of Jamaican law that forbids foul language in live performances.
According to our US Team, the Young Money star pleaded guilty to the charge, and was fined 1,000 Jamaican dollars – the equivalent of $11 – which was paid by local attorney Hugh Thompson who entered the guilty plea on behalf of the absent Nicki Minaj.
Minaj seemed unfazed by the small fine, later tweeting: "OMG!!! I swear I just had the TIME of my LIFE @ ReggaeSumFest in JAMAICA!!!!! Jamaica I fell in love tonite! WOWWW!!!!” Source
I am sure that $11 will make sure Nicki never swears again.
But honestly, Nicki swears in pretty much all of her songs... its not like the authorities would have been "surprised" by her swearing. The authorities knew what they were getting with Nicki before she arrived at Reggae Sumfest.
Only eleven dollars though.
Shouldn't she have been informed before performing that swearing was something you could be penalized for?
I mean, it's eleven bucks but still.
I think she knew and just didn't give a ****. Artists get fined for this all the time. I think the audience would've been disappointed if she hadn't used swears.
