The Mercury Prize is an annual music prize awarded for the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland. Nominations are chosen by a selected panel of musicians, music executives, journalists and other figures in the music industry in the UK and Ireland.

I definitely wouldn't rule out Adele. Plenty of big selling mainstream artists have won the prize before (i.e Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, Ms.Dynamite..).
