Leona Lewis is celebrating after officials in her native Britain agreed to ban the use of wild animals in circuses.
The Bleeding Love hitmaker is a staunch animal rights supporter and was outraged to learn zebras, lions, tigers and camels are currently being used in three travelling circuses in the U.K.
After a political debate in London on Thursday (23Jun11), British lawmakers agreed to ban the use of wild animals in circuses - and Lewis is delighted with the outcome, after teaming up with politician Diane Abbott to fight for the cause.
In a series of posts on her Twitter.com page, she writes, "Such incredible news today! Thanks (Abbott) for supporting the circus animal ban! U have made the difference!
"We did it! We did it! I'm just so happy thank u all for supporting the ban our voices were heard!"
The government could introduce the ban from next July (12).
