Anna Nalick releases new album Broken Doll & Odds & Ends, worth wait

Six years later, or seven depending on how you’re counting, Anna Nalick has finally gotten to release her second album entitled Broken Doll & Odds & Ends. After debuting with Wreck Of The Day in 2004, which saw re-release in 2005 and featured the iconic hit song Breathe (2 AM), Anna followed up with the single Shine and then, in terms of studio releases, appeared to fall off the face of the earth. But those who’ve spotted her performing new material around the Los Angeles club scene have been aware that she’s had plenty of new material up her sleeve, and a nice chunk of it has surfaced today.
The ten song album is clearly centered around the song Broken Doll, which is the first track on the record in addition to finding its way into the album title. Up tempo yet gently lilting, the story is one which fans will be poring over looking for clues as to what all Nalick has gone through behind the scenes over the past half decade-plus. The rest of the record is full of gems, including the final track entitled All On My Own. The song had been a staple in her recent live sets, and while the starkly honest fragile tale along the lines of “All on my own, I don’t think that I’d have fared so well” may be too gentle to find its way onto radio, it may also be the best thing she’s ever released. And for those who’ve been with Anna for the whole ride, she’s treated fans with a an entirely reworked version of Shine which transforms the previously brawny anthem into an orchestrally sweet one.
Here’s the fun part, though: after having to wait more than half a decade for Anna Nalick’s second album, you apparently won’t have to wait even half a year for her third. Also expected to surface this year is a record which leans more toward the songs she’s previously shared on her website including Lullaby Singer and Break Me Open. She’s also teased that there’s an updated version of Breathe (2AM) in the pipeline as well. But enough about the Anna Nalick record that isn’t out yet; that’s been the storyline for far too long. Instead here’s the Anna Nalick record that has been released this week, and after having spent a little time with it, it’s safe to say that it was worth the wait. Here’s the iTunes link.
