Adele Stays Atop Hot 100, Lady Gaga Makes 'Glory'-ous Start
Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" claims a second week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, to be released tomorrow (May 19) on Billboard.com,
while Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory" soars in at No. 3.
"Rolling in the Deep" strengthens its lock atop the chart with Airplay Gainer honors for a third consecutive week and the Digital Gainer award for the second time in four weeks. The song rises 3-2 on Radio Songs (118 million in audience, up 19%, according to Nielsen BDS) and logs a second frame atop Digital Songs with its highest weekly sum to-date (353,000 downloads sold, up 20%, according to Nielsen SoundScan).
As previously reported, Adele's "21" dominates the Billboard 200 for an eighth week, while "Rolling in the Deep" sets the weekly plays record in its third frame in charge of the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart.
Lonely Island Sets Sail at No. 3 on Billboard 200, Adele Still No. 1
Katy Perry's former Hot 100 No. 1 "E.T.," featuring Kanye West, holds at No. 2, while Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory" blasts in at No.
3. The third single from her album "Born This Way," due May 23, charges in as the highest new entry on Digital Songs (No. 2; 266,000) and Radio Songs (No. 54; 20 million, up 361%).
Lady Gaga has started higher on the Hot 100 and Digital Songs only with the title cut from "Born This Way," which launched atop both surveys in February.
With "Born This Way" having led the Hot 100 for six weeks and prior single "Judas" having debuted and peaked at No. 10 four weeks ago (it falls 19-27 this week), Lady Gaga's first 10 singles promoted to radio have reached the Hot 100's top 10. Among women in the chart's five-decade history, only Mariah Carey (11) has begun with more consecutive career-opening top 10 singles.
