It was announced by Dimension Films and Miramax on Sunday that production of
"The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes" is slated for the summer with a release date of January 27, 2012.
The film, which will fall in "The Amityville Horror" franchise umbrella, is the first project to be developed under an agreement between Miramax and The Weinstein Co. to create sequels for the studios' best known properties. Jason Blum, one of the producers behind the "Paranormal Activity" films, is on board as one of the movie's producers.
Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands wrote the script for the new movie and are expected to direct.
"The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes" is set to take place in 1976, after the events in the original film. According to the press release "An ambitious female television news intern, on the verge of breaking the most famous haunted house case in the world, leads a team of journalists, clergymen and paranormal researchers into an investigation of the bizarre events that will come to be known as The Amityville Horror ... only to unwittingly open a door to the unreal that she may never be able to close."
