I'd like to get POV's to artists slightly under the mnstrm's radar. With the right machinations in place, some of these guys could break through, but as for now, THEY'RE STILL CONSIDERED "UPCOMING" ARTISTS.
So which mixtape from a "PRETENTIOUS" "UNDERGROUND" R&B artist do you prefer?
Feel free to add any bias component if you're so inclined.
I am inclined to say The Weeknd is better, but I think both are very talented and I would be happy to see Frank Ocean make it big.
I actually wrote a review of House of Balloons in the Blogs section of the site. I love the production, the lyrics, the vocals. It's all pretty much perfection. Great thread!

both albums/tapes are really good for different moods. but Ima give the edge to frank ocean cause his !! is clearly better written...I found myself sayin' "that was pretty lame" a few times listenin' to 'house of ballons'. (refering to the lyrics)
I say Frank Ocean >>> Nostalgia for me was alot easier to listen to all the way through production/lyric/vocal wise. The Weekend was ok, but I was definately skipping around trying to get away from that sometimes eye-rolling falsetto.
I just listened to The Weekend a few days ago and I liked them just not as much as I did when I first heard Nostalgia. They lyrics were what made me like Nostalgia so much. You have to be in different moods to listen to either of them though.
The Weeknds mixtape is alright, and the samples are cute, but it does not come close to Nostalgia, Ultra. None of his lyrics are memorable, and a lot of the songs sound the same.

LOL i knew his demos were leaked but had no idea this song was one of em.....Definitely not the best from his collection though.
Fav songs from each are "Acura Intergurl"* and "High For This"
