BOTB Week 20: This is the End
But first, let's see who missed out on the final round. I intended for four acts to make it, but two people tied for fourth place - so only three acts will be moving onto Round 4. The songs that would have played in round four for the rest will be bolded.
Beyoncé
1. Halo
2. Crazy in Love
3. Check on It
4. Radio
(I think Radio would have done really well for her - better than Check on It. After this week, people would have relished Bey in ultra-pop melody mode.)
Britney Spears
1. Everytime
2. Womanizer
3. Breathe on Me
4. Unusual You/Stronger
(Britney was felled by BoM, which is a shame because both of her fourth place songs are so much better. I think she would have taken the game with either choice.)
Gwen Stefani
1. Cool
2. The Sweet Escape
3. Yummy
4. Luxurious
(Probably best that she was knocked out now, as Luxurious would have done nothing for her.)
Justin Timberlake
1. Cry Me a River
2. My Love
3. Like I Love You
4.What Goes Around ... Comes Around
Eminem
1. Stan
2. Beautiful
3. Like Toy Soldiers
4. Not Afraid
(Pretty clear which mode we like Eminem in.)
Utada Hikaru
1. Passion
2. Simple and Clean
3. Sakura Drops
4. Wait and See
(Utada, our last J-Popper, did far better than anyone expected. Now she can come back and surprise us some more.)
Ciara
1. Oh
2. Promise
3. Like a Boy
4. Tell Me What Your Name Is
(Oft-underrated, I think Tell Me What Your Name is would have been the definition of the word sleeper.)
Robyn
1. Handle Me
2. Keep this Fire Burning
3. Criminal Intent
4. Dancing on My Own
(One of the last cherrypicks - I'm crushed DOMO didn't have a chance to own, but excited that now everyone will be able to pick top fours for Robyn next game.)
TBC ...

Florence and the Machine
1. Cosmic Love
2. Hurricane Drunk
3. Dog Days are Over
4. Drumming Song
(Utada was one of the two acts that almost made it to Round 4 - Florence was the other. Now she can come back, hopefully with more than just one album.)
Alicia Keys
1. Try Sleeping with a Broken Heart
2. You Don't Know My Name
3. Karma
4. Love is Blind
(I've never heard the fourth place song, but I'm sure she has better.)
Maroon 5
1. Misery
2. This Love
3. Harder to Breathe
4. Hands All Over
Kelly Clarkson
1. Since U Been Gone
2. Never Again
3. All I Ever Wanted
4. Behind These Hazel Eyes
Rihanna
1. Umbrella
2. S.O.S.
3. Fading
4. Don't Stop the Music
If you've been paying attention, you should be able to figure out our top three!

Florence My cherrypick. Oh well, she did well for only having out one album.
But congrats to Kylie!

So, the finale is Gaga, Kanye and Kylie? That is definitely unexpected, to say the least. Who tied for fourth?

Well, everyone, take comfort in this - everyone who's competed so far is eligible for the next game; the three artists who made it to Round Four have to sit the next game out.

Utada and Florence.
Let's get to it.
Kylie Minogue, performing I Believe in You
Kanye West, performing Paranoid (featuring Mr. Hudson)
Lady Gaga, performing Monster
Fitting, because this is the toughest week of the game. Good luck voting!
I'll keep it open until SATURDAY. But: Post your comments, but do NOT post your rankings here - send them to me via PM. It'll keep you all guessing!

What?! That's even more unexpected. I guess bad song choices (and some strong competition) really did in some of the big names.

Fitingly, this is the hardest week yet.
Paranoid - A bit slept on upon its release, the strongest part is that melody - oh, what a melody it is.
Monster - I believe the Village Voice said something about this being her best album cut, with a "synth-saturated melancholy" that recalled Pet Shop Boys. What I've always loved about this song is the elliptical nature of the lyric, how elusive it is. It can be seen as a continuation of Just Dance in sound, or in theme (I've really liked the interpretation of JD as a date-rape melody, so exploring that darkness sonically works), or about the danger inherent in initial attraction, or about a guy with a really big ... disco stick. Whatever it is, it really works.
I Believe in You - Funnily enough, the weakest part of this gem is the chorus.
I still don't know what my decision will be.

This is, by far, one of the toughest weeks, if not the toughest week of the entire competition. I love that we're ending this with a true battle.
Kanye West Paranoid
Forget "Gold Digger", forget Stronger, forget "Love Lockdown", forget "Heartless". This should have been the biggest success of Kanye's career. That melody and Mr. Hudson's hook entered my head sometime in 2009 and never left.
Kylie Minogue I Believe In You
As Ace noted, the real weakness here is the chorus. This is a beautiful effort none-the-less, and it is just one of many moments in Kylie's discography that I treasure.
Lady Gaga Monster
"We might have ****ed, not really sure, don't quite recall." Sold. Couldn't we have scrapped "Born This Way" and "Judas" and released this instead.

Right? And the craziest thing is that these are the fourth-place choices!

Paranoid, Kanye West
A beat that will forever slay my life. A bit of an unnecessary intro that sounds so out of place but just helps make the song what it is. Wait, this is getting cheesy. We all know this song *****. Let's not forget my husband Kid Cudi has writing credits on this song.
I Believe in You, Kylie Minogue
As my computer lagged, loading this video... I was seriously praying it would be better than Monster just so my boy Ye can have a bit of an edge over GaGa. But I'm not here for delusion, this simply wasn't gonna do it. As angelic she sounds in the chorus, as far as the big picture goes - I'm not here for it. Yes, the repetition of "I Believe in You" near the ending gave me second thoughts as to where it should be placed, but...
Monster, Lady GaGa
THIS IS MY FAVORITE GAGA SONG. I love this song, it's hot as hell. Bad Romance hew?

She should have stayed releasing singles from "The Fame Monster" forever. That album is practically pop perfection, as opposed to this new crap she's giving us.

Today. I was waiting on JT/Fireman 25, but he can join us in the next game.
