Obviously, it's women becoming men that is more accepted by society than men becoming women. Same situation with homosexual men and homosexual women (gays & lesbians).
For some reason, society (most particularly American) feels that women may be any type of woman they please (tomboys and girly-girls are equally excepted), but effeminate men are ridiculed and labeled as gay. Woman can be what they want; however, men must be tough, strong, and, well, manly.
That's why gay men and even the thought of a man desiring to be a woman seems to bother people so much, while gay women and women desiring to be men is socially acceptable. Plus, let's be honest, men still have the upperhand in society today, and they find lesbians "hot", and gays to be "weird" or "uncomfortable" to be around for them. Just being frank
