Amanda Seyfried Says Mamma Mia 2 Will Never Happen
Bad news - or good news - for anyone waiting on an update of a potential Mamma Mia 2. One of the film's stars Amanda Seyfried has shot down rumours that a sequel could one day go into production, saying: "
That's never gonna happen."
The ABBA stage show became a box office phenomenon when it was transformed into a 2008 movie, overtaking Grease as the world's top-earning movie musical after pulling in a mammoth $600 million in global ticket sales. This latest news, however, seems like an end to making any more money, money, money (sorry about that).
Seyfried, in an interview with Marie Claire, did admit to spreading a rumour of a Mamma Mia 2 around Hollywood last year because she was desperate to return to her role as lovestruck Sophie. But now the actress has conceded she will never play the part again - as film bosses would struggle to put together a new installment.
"
F*** no! That's never gonna happen." she said. "
Like, what would they do? What would they write about? How would they get all the actors back?"
Seyfried is of course referring to the first film's star-spangled cast, which includes Oscar-winners Meryl Streep and Colin Firth plus Stellan Skarsgard, Dominic Cooper, Julie Walters and Pierce Brosnan.
